Since the 1980s, Brigitte Kowanz’s work has investigated space and light, which she employs both as a material and a subject. Kowanz understands light as a medium for information, much like language, and uses light in combination with reflection, transparency, and opacity to point to the construction of meaning, in an integrated, fluid relationship between viewer and artwork.
